Open-Pit Mine Dewatering Based on Water Recirculation—Case Study with Numerical Modelling

The layout of the dewatering system in open-cast mining must be adapted to assumptions and size expected inflows, which, turn, depend on natural conditions operation other mines groundwater intakes, affecting arrangement hydrodynamic field. This case study analyses possible solutions related a change drainage system: decommissioning by flooding depleted deposit new one located vicinity. As part numerical modelling, solution was sought minimise environmental impact drainage. Forecast calculations for two alternatives were made. One follows classic approach: independent excavation. second assumes recirculation waters from mine through their discharge into closed flooded pit results forecasts both variants point modification field resulting volumes inflows different effects. use simulations assisted selection optimal solution.
